Top 5 facts about Geo. Serbia

Serbia is a Tier 2 region which, despite its relatively modest popularity in the nutra market, also has great potential for work. There are a number of objective advantages to this, so let's take a look at the top 5:

  • For several years now, the region has been witnessing a trend towards active and healthy lifestyles and the promotion of physical and mental well-being, which automatically opens up a wide horizon of opportunities for the promotion of products in the beauty and health category.
  • Serbia is dynamically adapting to global trends, and people are increasingly interested in products that improve health, immunity, weight regulation, etc.
  • Unlike Tier 1 regions such as the USA, Canada or Western Europe, the Serbian market is not yet overcrowded and has a relatively low level of competition between affiliates. This is one of the most important factors, as it offers good opportunities (especially for beginners) to start with small budgets and a higher probability of making profits.
  • Serbian users are quite active on the Internet and are not yet so tempted by offers and advertising, so they are more open and receptive to online shopping, especially if the products help to improve their quality of life without much hassle and cost.
  • The region also has a relatively low cost per lead, which opens up opportunities to work with low budgets, but increases the scope for testing and finding new approaches.

Problems of the region

  • High unemployment rate. According to Statista data for September 2024, the unemployment rate is 8.1%, which is particularly relevant for the young and rural population. There are also significant social inequalities in the region, reflected in the differences between urban and rural areas and in the living standards of different social groups.
  • Low economic development. Despite improvements in the economy, many residents have a rather low level of income. The average salary is between EUR 600-800.
  • Ageing population. The local population is ageing, creating additional problems for the social, medical and pension systems. The number of older people is increasing, while the number of younger people is decreasing.
  • Low level of medical and health services. Despite government efforts to improve this area, the country still lacks medical equipment, medicines and hospital staff. This has a direct impact on the availability and quality of medical services, and in some remote areas medical care is unavailable or limited (particularly in rural areas).
  • Environmental problems such as air pollution, waste management and climate change.
  • Political instability and divided societies.
  • Logistical issues: there are problems with transport infrastructure in some parts of the country, particularly in rural and remote areas. This makes it difficult to travel and access essential services.

Interesting facts about Serbia

  • Serbia uses both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. This is unique and many Serbs use both alphabets freely in everyday life.
Serbia follows the Julian calendar for religious holidays. This explains why many Christian holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, are celebrated on different dates in Serbia than in countries that use the Gregorian calendar.
  • "Merak" is a unique word in the Serbian language, which has no exact translation and meaning in other languages, but it represents an important part of Serbian culture and mentality. "Merak" means something similar to total pleasure and satisfaction or inner peace, but in a deeper, philosophical sense.
  • Serbs have their own siesta (break during the working day), which is also called "merak". During this time, people drink coffee, spend time with loved ones and enjoy life. The leisurely drinking of coffee, alone or in company, is an integral part and tradition of the local population.
  • In the region, the locals are very fond of coffee, so much so that they can start the day with it, have it at lunchtime and end it with it, but in a more relaxed atmosphere with friends or family. It's a kind of emotional release after a hard day's work. Tea is seen here as a medicine rather than a beverage.
  • Smoking has been common and part of the culture for many years, even in public places, being the norm not only in cafes and restaurants but also in public transport, shops and enclosed spaces such as offices and trains. However, with the development of anti-tobacco policies and stricter laws, the situation began to change.
